(More customer reviews)This is a textbook on sports management. It is intended for use at undergraduate level in college or for the interested individual. Each main section of the book is written by an expert in that particular field. Then the chapters are gathered together and edited by Drs. Crow and Gillentine to eliminate duplication and to provide a smooth flow from one chapter to the next. The individual chapters are mostly written by college level professors who teach sports management at various universities around the country.
You wouldn't have read this far if you hadn't already realized that sports management is a big business. And as with any big business quite a body of knowledge and of ethics and indeed of law has come up.
Some of the chapters include
economic theory, sports like anything else obey the rules of supply and demand,
sport finance, including accounting, budgets, financial analysis,
sports marketing and market research,
sponsorship, often worth far more than the salaries the players get,
even global sports such as the Olympics and the international expansion of US Sport.
This book is written in a manner that makes it interested to the casual reader as well as to the sports minded individual, or the individual interested in a career in sports management.
