(More customer reviews)The book explains how the voice works on a physical level. There are clear diagrams and practical exercises to put the theory into immediate effect. He treats the key areas of phonation and resonance lucidly and at sufficient depth.
The author details a number of common problems with the spoken voice such as it being "pinched" or strident. If you are looking for a book to help you develop or repair your voice this might well be the one you are looking for.
There is plenty of repetition of the key ideas and exercises so that the overall message is at once simple and profound. He shows you how to relax and open the throat, find your ideal pitch and employ the lips, tongue and jaw to form clear speech sounds. Always technical, he nevertheless cautions against artifice and emphasises the importance of transmitting feeling in the development of a "superior voice".
The book is full of poetry and prose which in itself would make the book a gem.
At $125 it may seem pricey but I have gained enormous self-confidence by putting its contents into daily practice.
