(More customer reviews)This book allows the reader to significantly reduce the learning curve of someone looking to break into the business, and to the experienced professional looking to gain insight from other professionals and service providers. If you could put a dollar amount on the information conveyed here it would be worth many times over the cost of the book. The format of the book is pretty straight forward and unique, while being easily accessible.
Each chapter starts out with a brief overview and a "Why Important" statement concluding with a helpful chapter summary. Think about being able to sit in on numerous conference calls, or interviews with HF managers, service providers, admin etc. and taking in the important information and lessons they have learned and are trying to convey. He addresses all gamuts of the hedge fund arena, from start-ups to giant hedge funds, governance/best practices, due diligence, operations (over half of hedge fund failure is due to poor operations) and the vast support structure hedge funds use. He and the people he interviews allow the reader to peer into their minds, and view what is working and what isn't working, coupled with current trends in the business.
The author asks all the right questions in his interviews, which allows the reader to take note on the information, and the types of quality questions one should be asking when conducting information sessions/interviews with hedge funds. The FAQ and resources are an added bonus as well. I feel this should be directly applied by someone looking to land a position, already in the space, and investing in a HF. Overall this is a great book, and a breath of fresh air compared to others. It has helped educate me in a way that can be applied right away to world of hedge funds.
