I have finally found a copy of Mike Mentzer's comptete book of weight training. Thanks to Amazon.com marketplace sellers, mysearch has ended. This book is wayahead of it's time when it comes to weight training. Most trainerstoday train 5-6 days a week, lasting an hour or longer. Mentzerrecommends 3 days a week, 20-30 minutes per day. Now would anyone want to train 5-6 days a week?I don't think so unless you're onsteroids. Most people don't have the time to train either due to their job or other reasons. If your not getting good results from your present routine, then itmay be time to try Mike Mentzer'smethod. If you can find this book,I would certainly recommend it.RIP-MIKE & RAY MENTZER

I am the Head Athletic Trainer and Professor of Athletic Training Curriculum at a college in Oklahoma City. This is the best text I have ever read which caters to the education of Athletic Trainers. It is the text of choice for my Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries class, as well as a source of reference for any challenge I face within the training room. This book is the "Trainer's Bible" bar none! I personally used the eighth edition when studing for the NATABOC exam and have used the ninth and tenth editions in my classes. I highly recommend this text for everyone in the sports medicine field. If you are a Student Atheltic Trainer and are debating whether or not to spent the Seventy-something dollars for this book. this book will make the difference between pass and fail!

Taming and Training Cockatiels Review

Taming and Training Cockatiels
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Absolutely without a doubt the best thing about Teitler's `Taming and Training Cockatiels' is the wonderful color photographs, but aren't most color photographs of cockatiels charming? Decent photographs are insufficient criteria to distinguish a book on birds. The book is written in a boring style that reads like, `look, here are my pets, aren't they great?' The book lacks focus and unsuccessfully attempts to cover too much material. There are promising introductory sections intended for readers that have never owned a bird before where instructions on making `first contact' without terrorizing the cockatiel are given. However, just a few pages later there is a large section on breeding birds. Surely it's unwise for a novice who wants a tame, loveable pet bird to delve into breeding at the same time? If the author had focused on one area, such as a guidebook for the new bird owner while avoided irrelevant distractions, I might have been able to suggest this book.

I really liked the way this book was written and put together. It did indeeed cover thing specific to Shih Tzus and was not a generic dog book. The DVD was a really nice bonus. I would recommend this book to anyone thinking about buying a Shih Tzu, or people like myself and wife who have had them for over 12 years. We currently have 3, and this book just reignites your passion for these fun little dogs.

The Job Training Charade Review

The Job Training Charade
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You need to read this book.
It shows clearly the motivations employers
use to make hiring decisions.
Dr. Lafer shows the true reasons hire/not hire
decisions are made.
It fits perfectly with an economic model: cost.
He shows, through government statistics and interviews
with employers, the true motivations for hiring.
It's all about cost (obviously).
But i'm not summarizing! The book gives a much
better description of this huge trend, affecting
each of our lives.
It starts out with an analysis of the job training
program for lesser educated persons. The chapter
that affects me, the 2nd one, "Does education really matter"
is 20+ pages of information (not opinion) of why
people hire. It's so easy to say "there is a skills mismatch".
Yet, i've seen organized people rise to prominent positions
based solely on their abilities to listen to their boss, and be
organized. Learning more and more from universities won't
save you.
You need to understand what the reasons are.
The writing style is very clear. You're not confused
with arcane economic jargon. The facts are laid out,
and the supporting details are put in footnotes.
I read a lot of books on employment, advancement,
the job trends of the future. This book explains
so many of the true reasons. And when you understand the general premise, it fits perfectly with the low cost
economic model sweeping the world.

Carrots and Sticks Don't Work: Build a Culture of Employee Engagement with the Principles of RESPECT Review

Carrots and Sticks Don't Work: Build a Culture of Employee Engagement with the Principles of RESPECT
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
At some level, most managers and employers understand that their business success is dependent on their relationship with their employees. Some even acknowledge this concept with slogans such as, "Our employees are our most important asset."
Despite knowing the importance of fully engaged employees, most managers/owners fall short of actually achieving their goal. One of the major reasons is they worked their way up the corporate ladder where the carrot/stick management style is the accepted wisdom. Most have been lead to believe that incentives increase desired behavior and punishment is in order for unacceptable behavior.
Paul Marciano has written a very compelling case for much more effective approach. The title gives you the first premise of the book. Carrots and Sticks Don't Work. To prove his point, he gives 20 reasons why they don't work. These reasons are well thought out and backed up by psychological study of human behavior.
At times it is fairly easy to talk about what doesn't work. But Marciano does not stop at what does not work. Based on his experience in the field, he has developed a system that works. He calls this the RESPECT Principles.
The RESPECT Principles are based on what motivates individual to become fully engaged in their work. The individual components of the RESPECT Model are: Recognition, Empowerment, Supportive Feedback, Partnering, Expectations Consideration and Trust.
He devotes a chapter to each of the components of the model. The basic format of each chapter is an introductory discussion, a self-assessment quiz, stories from the trenches and specific tips on how to implement the concepts discussed.
The book is exceptionally well written. It is easy to read and understand. The writing is conversational style and flows smoothly. The concepts are discussed in sufficient detail with actual examples of what works, why it works and where you might encounter problems.
I have worked with hundreds of small business owners and most are following the carrot and stick management style. And the biggest complaint I hear from these small business owners concern their employees and problems motivating and dealing with them. In my opinion they would all immediately improve their business if they would read and implement the concepts in this book.
If your job involves dealing with employees, I urge you to get a copy of this book. Since the concepts probably represent a total shift in perspective toward your employees, you will need to keep this handy and refer to it often.
It is an excellent resource and it will greatly improve your relationship with your employees. I believe the last sentence of the book says it all, "If you want the most out of your people, treat them with respect and they will respect and do more for you."

"The RESPECT model is one of the most dynamic, engaging, and thought-provoking employee engagement tools that I have seen. Dr. Marciano's work will help you providemeaningful long-term benefits for your employees, for your organization, and for yourself." -- Andy Brantley, President and CEO, College and University Professional Association for Human Resources
"This book provides clear advice and instruction on how to engage your team members and inspire them to a higher level of productivity, work satisfaction, and enjoyment. I am already utilizing its techniques and finding immediate positive changes." -- Robert Roth, Director, Accounting and Reporting, Colgate Palmolive Company

The title says it all: Carrots and Sticks Don't Work.
Reward and recognition programs can be costly and inefficient, and they primarily reward employees who are already highly engaged and productive performers. Worse still, these programs actually decrease employee motivation because they can make individual recognition, rather than the overall success of the team, the goal. Yet many businesses turn to these measures first—unawareof a better alternative. So, when it comes to changingyour organizational culture, carrots and sticks don't work!
What does work is Dr. Paul Marciano's acclaimed RESPECT model, which gives you specific, low-cost, turnkey solutions and action plans-- based on seven key drivers of employee engagement that are proven and supported by decades of research and practice—that will empower youto assess, troubleshoot, and resolve engagement issuesin the workplace:
Recognition and acknowledgment of employees' contributions
Empowerment via tools, resources, and information that set employees up to succeed
Supportive feedback through ongoing performance coaching and mentoring
Partnering to encourage and foster collaborative working relationships
Expectations that set clear, challenging, and attainable performance goals
Consideration that lets employees know that they are cared about
Trust in your employees' abilities, skills, and judgment

Carrots and Sticks Don't Work delivers the sameproven resources and techniques that have enabledtrainers, executives, managers, and owners at operations ranging from branches of the United States government to Fortune 500 corporations to twenty-person outfits to realize demonstrable gains in employee productivity andjob satisfaction.
When you give a little RESPECT you get a more effective organization, with reduced turnover and absenteeism and employees at all levels who areengaged, focused, and committed to succeed as a team. In short, you get maximum ROI from your organization's most powerful resource: its people!

Daughter of Fire: A Diary of a Spiritual Training With a Sufi Master

Excellent book. Although some might believe that Sufism cannot be separate from Islam and should be limited to those of the religion, this book instead presents the understanding that mysticism, including Sufism, is available to all who seek with sincerity. There is nothing within it that contradicts the teachings of Islam, nor any of the other major religions. It is not a book for those who are simply seeking an easy template upon which to base their own spiritual lives upon, but rather, recommended for those who are pulled into the mystic life by something within themselves. . . and often in spite of themselves. It is also a good preparation for beginners, in showing that the true teacher is often not what one expects a teacher to be, and that the experiences of the mystical path are not limited to those that one hopes for. Those already on a genuine Sufi/mystic path might find much to relate to. Heartily recommended.

This book is a MUST for anyone interested in learning about improvisation and the relationship of improvisation to harmonic theory and the contemporary 21st Century world that we live in. From the beginning of the book Mr. Sarath explores non-judgmental approaches to improvisation that work beyond musical genre. The text includes a wealth of harmonic information as well as explanations for figured bass realization and studies in counterpoint. One could teach an entire class of non-improvisers how to improvise in one semester using this wonderful book. It is a breathtaking achievement in scope and clarity. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Designed for Music Theory courses, Music Theory Through Improvisation presents a unique approach to basic theory and musicianship training that examines the study of traditional theory through the art of improvisation. The book follows the same general progression of diatonic to non-diatonic harmony in conventional approaches, but integrates improvisation, composition, keyboard harmony, analysis, and rhythm. Conventional approaches to basic musicianship have largely been oriented toward study of common practice harmony from the Euroclassical tradition, with a heavy emphasis in four-part chorale writing. The author's entirely new pathway places the study of harmony within improvisation and composition in stylistically diverse format, with jazz and popular music serving as important stylistic sources. Supplemental materials include a play-along Audio CD for improvisation and a companion website with resources for students and instructors.

Body By Design: The Complete 12-Week Plan to Transform Your Body Forever

I honestly believe that Body by Design will become a movement and turn the world into the transformation nation. The studies, stratagies and simple applications that Kris Gethin has laid out has already helped over half a million people (before he even wrote this book). Every person that reads and follows Body by Design will become an evangalist to inspire others.
The core of Body by Design is motivation, and Gethin shares powerful research showing that never has it been so important to connect the mind and body to provide a limitless surplus of motivation, and not allow it to become a fixed trait, or be seen as a seperate entitiy.
Although Kris has gone through an amazing transformation himself, there are other profiles within the book that everyone can relate to. You can learn from every one of these profiles and understant what their "Transformation Trigger" was
Featured are easy-to-use nutrition plans, recipes, workout and nutrition logs, and a training program that includes 3 phases. The final 3 weeks of the training program is called DTP (Dramatic Training Principle) which is a real challenge but forces the body to build muscle AND burn fat at the same time.
The part I liked the most about this book, and what really makes it unique, are the Four Pillars of Power. Kris showes you how to take a social inventory, become transparent with your goals and become accountable to them.
The foreword by Jamie Eason backs-up Kris' message - how Body by Design harnesses the power of the group to help one - you, the reader, so you can turn your fitness goals into reality.
Time for my next meal - enjoy the this amazing book :)

It takes the readerthrough all the basic training of a horse, from leading right through to gait training. From there it moves on to the subject of correcting gait problems that may already exist. This portion leads readers and their horses through a 6-week gait retraining course one part devoted tohorses that tend to pace, another to those that prefer to trot. There's a chapter devoted to the topicof correctly fitting bit and saddle, and shoeing for gait. Getting Started with Neurofeedback Review

Getting Started with Neurofeedback
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In the field of neurofeedback there are very few books that actually explain how to do neurofeedback. Most of the existing books are about theory and not method. John Demos has put together a book that is based on a sophisticated understanding of the method of neurofeedback and at the same time very readable. Within these pages are the simple and straightforward explanations of what needs to be done, why it needs to be done and how to do it. His explanations are clear and lucid. The careful organization of this text provides the reader with a progressive exposure to concepts that culminates in a comprehensive picture of the practice of neurofeedback. The theory and method he presents is well grounded in the existing literature and reflects a thorough exploration of the topic as well as considerable first hand clinical experience. This is the book that clinicians entering the field will be searching for as they travel from workshop to workshop in search of a comprehensive approach. As an author, clinician, and teacher in the field of neurofeedback I am acutely aware of the extensive effort and care it required to produce such a text and I highly recommend it to everyone in the field.
Richard Soutar, Ph.D.

Potty Animals: What to Know When You've Gotta Go Review

Potty Animals: What to Know When You've Gotta Go
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Congratulations, you've successfully potty-trained your child! They can run to the potty, pull down their pants and do their thing. However, just maybe, there is some fine-tuning that needs to take place. Maybe your child is afraid to flush, doesn't wipe or wash heir hands, leaves the door open, or a multitude of other pottying misdemeanors. What to do? Your shelves hold the standard potty-training books, but where's the sequel; the follow-up title that leads to mastering all the finer points of using the toilet? Welcome to Potty Animals: What to Know When You've Gotta Go!
Written in rhyme punctuated by emphatic statements, author Hope Vestergaard sneakily invites young children to correct the potty mistakes that a group of preschool or early elementary aged animals make in their toileting habits. Freddie the rabbit is afraid to flush, Helga the duck lallygags, Georgie won't wipe, and Farley won't close the door! Not only that, but there's an entire crew of tiny critters who exhibit a wide range of potentially embarrassing and unhealthy habits that must be curbed!
Illustrator Valeria Petrone's comical, clothed critters are caught in the act - barging Benji is suddenly surprised when someone barges in on him for a change, Stanley is spotted tinkling on his shoe as he pees outside behind a tree, and Ziggy's zipper is left embarrassingly open. There's no doubt what these critters are up to, with pants pulled down and perched on the potty, however Petrone does use tactful positioning of books and other elements to avoid embarrassment for young readers and their parents.
When I flipped open Potty Animals with my children I wasn't really sure what to expect. I hadn't pre-read this title, and just dove in. I can't honestly remember a time that I've laughed so hard reading a picture book. This is such a funny, frank, and age-appropriate way to delve into these issues. Just thinking about Benji the barger cracks me up every time - you really need to check this title out for yourself!
